"Beloved, when I gave all
diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for
me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend
for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For there
are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to
this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into
lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus
Christ" (Jude, verses 3,4).
Jude, the writer of this short letter
from which our scripture comes today, says that there were already men
who were teaching against the things that had (notice had)
already been delivered unto the saints. The known writers of the
New Testament were Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James, Paul, and
Jude. God has chosen to not reveal who the writer of the book of
Hebrews was. Everything we find written in the New Testament was
written before the death of the last apostle or inspired writer of the
first century A.D. Neither God, nor Jesus Christ, through the
Spirit, has revealed anything to anyone since the first century, A.D.,
neither will They in the future. Whatever was taught by the apostles,
through the direction of Jesus Christ, is what the first century hearers
believed and obeyed. Today, we must hear, believe, and obey the same
words, written by the inspired writers in the New Testament. See
Hebrews 13:8,9.
Readers, Jesus did not speak to your "preacher" in a dream last night, nor ever. What we must teach and obey was "once for all delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3, ASV). We must believe it and obey it in order to be saved (Romans1:16).
