Genesis Questions

Have you heard the statement that "the time will come when man cannot tell the seasons except by the budding of the trees"? No doubt, many of us have heard religious people, people who believe in God, make this statement. After Noah and his family had left the ark and offered burnt offerings on the altar in worship to God, God said: "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night, shall not cease" (Genesis 8:22). This example teaches us that man can be totally mistaken in what he thinks the Bible says.

Let us do some review and also notice some facts before and after the great flood. Last week, we noticed from Genesis 6:8 that "Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." In verse 9, we find why: "Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked ." The word "just" here means "righteous."

Take your Bibles and open them to Genesis 5, as we notice some things:

#1: How old was Methuselah when he died? (v.27)________

#2: How old was Methuselah when his son Lamech was born? (v.25)________

#3: How old was Lamech when Noah was born? (vs.28,29)________

#4: How old was Lamech when he died? (v.31)________

#5: How old was Methuselah when Lamech died? (vs. 25,26,30,31)________

#6: How old would his father Lamech have been when Noah was 500? (vs. 28,32)________

#7: How old would Noah's grandfather, Methuselah, have been when Noah was 500? (vs. 25,28,32)________

We go to Genesis 6 and find that it repented God that He had made man because the thoughts of man's heart were evil continually (vs.1-7). But, that was not the case with Noah. He found grace (favor) in the eyes of the Lord (v.8).

Now, let us do some more thinking and calculations regarding the men we've considered today. If Noah was the one who was found righteous by God when he was 500 years old, what condition would his father, Lamech, and his grandfather, Methuselah, have been in? We know Noah was 500 years old when the Lord said He was going to destroy man and gave Noah the command to build the ark. By considering the age of Lamech and Methuselah, the age at which they died, and how near the flood the dates of their deaths were, how long had Noah's father, Lamech, been dead when the flood came?________ In relation to the flood, when did Noah's grandfather, Methuselah, die?________ Keep up your study of God's Word. There is much yet to learn.
